Action, Advocacy and Advancement

There is more to AMRRIC than provision of vets, however. The 'big picture' of AMRRIC's work is captured in the three words Action, Advocacy and Advancement. To support the primary, ongoing work of facilitating dog programmes, AMRRIC also engages in various other, strategically important activities. This is an overview:

ACTION
Dog programmes: Facilitating the establishment of sustainable dog health programmes in remote indigenous communities through funding and professional service initiatives, throughout Australian States and Territories.

Community support: Building the capacity of Indigenous communities to manage dog health programmes with training and resources; reducing welfare dependency and vulnerability to government funding fluctuations.

ADVOCACY
Ownership: Building understanding and ownership of animal management problems both within the communities and in local government, public sectors and the state, territory and federal governments.

Mediation: Mediating across cultural barriers to increase cooperation, raise awareness and skill levels, streamline delivery of services and ensure sustainability.

Protocol: Developing effective administrative models for engagement between government, indigenous communities, vets and health workers.

ADVANCEMENT
Research: Promoting scientific research into animal management practices and the relationship between human and animal health.

Conferences: Staging conferences and other educational sessions to develop best practice, nationally and internationally.

Collaboration: Developing and maintaining effective, collaborative partnerships and strategic alliances with funding bodies, service providers, indigenous groups and other stakeholders at local, territory, and national levels.
