School Education Programs

Education is vital in the AMRRIC approach to animal management in Indigenous communities. Targeted school education programs focusing on animal empathy, care, feelings, and safety strengthen the delivery of the animal management model. School education provides more sustainable outcomes for community members and companion animals alike.   

AMRRIC’s educational resources focus on the care, management, and responsible ownership of companion animals in communities and include lesson plans, posters, games, videos, songs, and much more. The resources are designed for pre-school through to Year 12 classes and are all accessible via our website. Resources are downloadable, free to use, and have been developed in collaboration with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, ranger groups, and education professionals.  

AMRRIC’s sustainable management model means our education resources can be utilised by anyone in community who wishes to run AMRRIC animal education sessions. The AMRRIC education officer is also available to train staff or interested parties in the use of the resources or, alternatively, AMRRIC’s education team can also deliver education sessions to schools upon request. School-based initiatives, such as themed weeks, events, and programs, can also be organised and delivered by the AMRRIC education team.

Tools And Training for Environmental Health And Animal Management Staff

AMRRIC believe that building local capacity to manage animal health and wellbeing in communities is the most effective way to promote effective local animal management.  AMRRIC can assist organisations with accredited and non-accredited training in key aspects of animal health programs relevant to Indigenous communities.  Training is context and audience specific and designed to be relevant to organisational training and community health needs.   

We are designing and delivering context-specific, on-the-job training to the staff undertaking animal management activities within their communities. Delivery of training focuses on using the Supported Learning framework to enable an increase in knowledge, skills and confidence of participants. This crucial education increases the skills and knowledge and confidence of all participants.
