On the 5th December 2018, The University of Queensland (UQ) launched its Reconciliation Action Plan (aka #UQRAP). Reconciliation Action Plans, administered by Reconciliation Australia, provide a simple framework for organisations to progress reconciliation within their sphere of influence. Through its RAP, UQ’s vision is to build a strong sense of belonging in an inclusive UQ that works respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, staff and communities in teaching, learning, research and collaboration – embracing and enhancing the best of Australia’s and the world’s diversity.

As part of the launch celebrations, AMRRIC was invited to co-host a stall showcasing the collaborative work that AMRRIC, in partnership with Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council, UQ’s School of Veterinary Science and Darling Downs Public Health Unit have been undertaking at Cherbourg, QLD.  AMRRIC’s educational resources and activities which have been delivered at Cherbourg State School and with Cherbourg community groups over the last three years of the partnership, were front and centre of the display.  Together with photos from the programs, the fun, bright and colourful resources helped to attract attendees at the launch, and made for an engaging display, even attracting UQ’s Vice-Chancellor Peter Hoj and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous Engagement) Bronwyn Fredericks to the stall.

AMRRIC’s Program Manager (Strategic Delivery) Dr Bonny Cumming was delighted to attend the launch, catch up with the Vet School’s staff and students who assisted at Cherbourg, and showcase AMRRIC’s work to the attendees and dignitaries.  For Bonny, meeting launch speaker and entertainer Kev Carmody was certainly an added bonus!
