Tennant Creek Dog Health Program

AMRRIC Program Manager Jan Allen has recently been working in Tennant Creek. Jan was part of a veterinary team which included Scott Spurling and Dewayne Foster who are both AMRRIC-trained Animal Management Workers. Scott and Dewayne gained experience in delivering dog health programs all over the Barkly Region during their training as AMWs and continue to play an important role that links the local community to vet programs.

The veterinary program was hosted by Barkly Vet Practice and included desexing and anti-parasite treatment for companion animals. This program improves dog health, controls the dog population and reduces problem behaviours like roaming and aggression. The program has health benefits for the community too, as there is reduced transmission of skin and gut parasites to dog owners.

It was an incredibly productive week with the team desexing 67 dogs and 46 cats.  Program Manager Jan Allen said "We couldn’t have got the numbers done without the help of Animal Management Workers Scott Spurling, Graeme Narrier and Dewayne Foster. Thank you also to Jacquie Hingston for her hard work with the team."

Joie Boulter of Tennant Creek said "What a wonderful job the team have been doing in Tennant Creek this week. As well as working from sun up to sun down they have accommodated Dion Beasley [of Cheeky Dogs fame] who is always mad keen to become involved in the program (diligently observing all goings on). The Tennant Creek community should be extremely grateful for the dedicated job provided by the team of local, visiting and AMRRIC vets. A job very well done."

Thank you to our partners in the program Barkly Vet Practice and Barkly Regional Council. Thank you also to the team, Linda Bradbury, Sarah Dart, Jacqueline Hingston, Scott Spurling, Dewayne Foster and Graeme Narrier.
