Training our future educators in remote communities

AMRRIC Education Officer presents to the workshop participants on AMRRIC's Education Resource Kit

In March, Education Officer Courtney Falls was by asked by the Queensland Health Tropical Public Health Service to deliver training in the use of the AMRRIC Education Resource Kit at their biannual Environmental Health and Animal Management Workers workshop held in Cairns. The workshop is an opportunity for remotely based Indigenous Environmental Health and Animal Management Workers to share knowledge and experience, build a network of peers and learn new skills. The 40 Indigenous participants who attended the workshop were provided with training in the delivery and use of the AMRRIC Education Resource Kit. It was a great opportunity for the Workers to participate and actively engage with the resources that AMRRIC has refined and compiled in the kits.

Since 2016 AMRRIC has sent a total of 35 Education Resource Kits to Queensland. These kits have been distributed to some of the most remote communities in Queensland to assist the Environmental and Animal Management Workers within these communities to delivery animal focused education programs.

The Kits allow for the extended reach of education across Australia and more importantly, they enable locally trained community members to deliver the lessons in language. This ensures that the program is locally owned and locally delivery. This collaborative partnership with the Queensland Health Tropical Public Health Service has, and will continue to assist in the delivery of dog and cat education programs across Queensland into the future.  AMRRIC was grateful to be given the opportunity to deliver the training, and thanks both the Queensland Health Tropical Public Health Service and the participants for their support and ongoing engagement.
