About Us

AMRRIC (Animal Management in Rural and Remote Indigenous Communities) is a national not-for-profit organisation working alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to improve animal health, human wellbeing, and environmental outcomes through a One Health approach. Guided by strong partnerships, AMRRIC delivers culturally responsive veterinary services, education, training, and advocacy that strengthen the connection between people, animals, Country, and culture.

Our 2030 Strategy sets out ambitious goals to expand access to high-quality animal management services, build local capacity and workforce pathways, and embed Indigenous-led, evidence-based approaches to animal health. By supporting remote communities with education, training, and tools, AMRRIC empowers communities to make self-determined, data-driven decisions about the management of their animals and contributes to stronger, healthier, and safer communities.

Over the next five years, AMRRIC will also grow organisational sustainability, prioritise Indigenous leadership across all levels of decision-making, and build a thriving workplace culture recognised for excellence and impact. This is an exciting period of growth and transformation, where AMRRIC’s work will continue to shape national conversations on companion animal health, biosecurity, biodiversity, and community wellbeing.

The Roles

AMRRIC is seeking to appoint two independent Indigenous Board Directors to help guide our organisation through an exciting period of expansion and diversification. We are looking for dynamic, experienced and collaborative Board Directors whose values align with AMRRIC’s mission and core values of Connect, Respect, Impact.

The AMRRIC Board is seeking to strengthen its governance with Directors who bring diverse expertise, cultural insight, and a commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of people, animals, and the environment through a One Health approach.  We are particularly interested in applicants with skills and experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Legal Expertise – legal qualifications and experience, particularly in governance, commercialisation, privacy, contract, or policy.
  • Information Technology (IT), Cybersecurity & Data Management – experience in IT, cyber, privacy, and data management, with awareness of the risks and implications of AI in the not-for-profit sector

These positions are identified for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, reflecting AMRRIC’s commitment to Indigenous leadership.

As a national organisation, AMRRIC welcomes suitably qualified applicants from all states and territories. Appointments are for an initial term of three years, with the possibility of renewal for up to three terms in total.

Responsibilities Required

  • Strong understanding of governance and the role and responsibilities of a board director ideally gained through AICD (Australian Institute of Company Directors) or similar qualifications and/or previous Board experience.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills together with the ability to operate collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, professionalism, and a passion for improving the lives of Indigenous people and animals living in remote and rural communities.

Board Directors will be required to prepare for and attend four meetings annually comprised of at least two remote teleconference meetings and two face-to-face board meetings (if and where possible). In addition, Directors are expected to participate on one or more Committees and represent AMRRIC occasionally at events.
