Macquarie University PACE Awards

On June 6, 2023, AMRRIC’s One Health Research Coordinator, Dr. Jessica Hoopes, had the honour of attending Macquarie University’s Judyth Sachs Professional and Community Engagement (PACE) Prize Awards Ceremony in Sydney.   At the ceremony Dr. Jessica Hoopes and AMRRIC received one of three PACE Partner Prizes, which recognises an industry, business or community partner that has made an outstanding contribution in supporting PACE work integrated learning activities.

AMRRIC has had the privilege of being involved with Macquarie University’s Medical Sciences Capstone/PACE Major Industry Partnership project for the past two years, working with students to develop a better understanding of companion animal management in rural and remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and the broader One Health impacts imparted by working to improve the health of cats and dogs in communities.  As part of this year’s project, the students researched the potential impacts of zoonoses in community cats and dogs. Their research led to the development of community-focused factsheets and infographics to help provide a better understanding diseases that can spread between people and companion animals in communities, which are now available on AMRRIC’s website at https://www.amrric.org/resource-type/factsheets/view/zoonosis-fact-sheets-macquarie-university-resources/

AMRRIC would like to express their sincere gratitude and all the students who were involved in industry partnership this year on creating some excellent resources and to Professor Michelle Power the unit convenor for the PACE/Medical Sciences Capstone for all her efforts in coordinating this program throughout the year. AMRRIC is also excited to announce that one of the groups of students who were involved in this year’s project also received high commendation in the Faculty of Science and Engineering PACE Faculty Student Prize category for their outstanding contributions to the PACE work integrated learning activities. Sincere congratulations to this outstanding group of students on their award and their contributions to the PACE partnership this year. AMRRIC would also like to congratulate all the awards recipients on a job well done and thank all of those involved in the PACE industry partnership program for this exciting opportunity.
